Selfie Here, Selfie There, Selfie Everywhere

It is very common for this age to have selfies—group selfie, food selfie, purposeful selfie, nail selfie, ootd, etcetera. You may definitely be one of those people who do such selfies. I honestly am part of it. However, why do we do it? Of course, for remembrances, and or memories to keep, but why?

I am, undeniably, guilty of taking selfies even inside the car, the mall, and the comfort rooms. But many of us have found the joy of doing it that we actually have our own photo album in our Facebook profiles, or has 100 plus selfies on your phone, not to mention others’ phones too. This post is for everyone, although I specifically address this to girls because I undoubtedly know that we’re very much expressive when it comes to pictures. Indeed, we are beautiful. Our smiles are very charming as it were made. No doubts about that. But do we necessarily have to show the world how perfectly imperfect yet beautiful we are? Is it a necessity to show people how perfect our skin is or how attractive our make-ups are? Is it required to take selfies early in the morning after getting up in bed? Is it that important to take selfies every now and then?

I am not being a legalistic here. I am very much conscience-stricken about it too because I take selfies wherever I am (but I don’t make an album of myself). Most of the time, we find ourselves unsatisfied when we don’t take a selfie not even once a day. And every so often, we forget what motives we have in our hearts. Having the attitude of narcissism, we become idol of ourselves because of too much self-admiration and self-centeredness. Loving ourselves overly is a sin. What is it still in our hearts? What do our hearts desire above all? “Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23

All women (including men) are wonderfully and beautifully made. People don’t just catch the sight of digging more to see our hearts. This world is always after the outside of our appearance. But we don’t have to verify to people how lovely we really are. For that, we don’t have to take so much selfies to show people our faces for everyday of our lives.

Moreover, do we pray and thank God first before we eat? Or do we take selfies of our meals first before eating? Is it that obligatory to take pictures of it yet? Think about it.

It’s okay to take selfies. Assuredly, “everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial.” 1 Corinthians 10:23
